reading tarotA divination method that involves the use of a rooster or cockerel. The bird is released in a circle drawn on the ground in which the letters of the alphabet have also been drawn.

At the top of each of the letters a grain of wheat is previously set, and so the bird builds a word by the order in which it goes about pecking different grains. This word is then interpreted by the seer to make his or her prediction.

There are versions of this methodology that indicate an extra previous step in which the bird is made to swallow pieces of paper with cabalistic messages written on them so as to help it peck grains that form a word that makes sense.
