bullet Chiromancy

reading tarotThe term chiromancy comes from the Greek word cheir – hand, and manteia – divination. It forms part of chirology, which studies the morphology of the hand, fingers, and palms. Chiromancy looks at lines and mounts and the relationship they have to the person the hand belongs to.

Although its origin is uncertain, it is believed that this divination art was born within nomad peoples of the Balkans. A different theory places its birthplace in India, more than 3,000 years ago. Since its birth, its study has expanded and spread all over the world: China, Persia, Chaldea, Persia, and Egypt. “Scienza della mano” or “sia chiromanzia” is one of the oldest and most detailed chiromancy treaties and it was written by Seraphim
Spoccani (1711).
These practices continued to develop and had a boom between the 18th and 19th centuries, mainly in Europe. From that point forward, formal science took interest in it, and serious investigations and research was conducted on the anatomy and morphology of hands.

One of the findings of such research was that lines on our hands are not there by chance, but are inherited from our most direct relatives. At around the sixth month from conception, and still in the womb, babies already have the complete set of lines on their palms, which began to form about two or three months earlier. In remote times, chiromancy was considered – as other divination methods – a pagan practice for which practitioners were accused of witchcraft and prosecuted and tortured by the Holy Inquisition. Today, it is many times combined and complemented with tarot reading and other esoteric practices.

Three Lines
There are three lines that govern the palm of the hand: the line of life, the line of the head, and the line of the heart. Through their inspection, it is possible to find a lot about the feelings and the future of a person. No two hands are the same.
It is of great importance to begin by creating a profile of the person whose hand will be read by looking at information from childhood and youth, as well as looking at the father’s and mother’s palms, if possible.

Types of Hand

Regarding their firmness and texture, hands are classified in four types:
A hand that isn’t firm indicates insecurity and laziness. A hard hand indicates little fear of obstacles and passion for sports. A dry hand indicates the mind has more weight than feelings, and a moist hand indicates bad circulation.
Regarding their shape, hands are classified in seven types:

The Elemental Hand. Thick and large palm, short and rigid fingers. A very common hand, usually belonging to apathetic people with little pretension and dedicated to physical labor.
