Dreaming is absolutely essential, as much as eating or drinking, and indeed, everyone dreams, but very often, those dreams are forgotten upon waking.
When we dream, we let down our guard, and our deepest emotions arise in our dreams. Some of these, we wouldn’t even dare to mention in our everyday lives, as they are seen as out of the ordinary within the context of the esoteric.
Therefore, the images that appear in dreams represent these emotions, and it is very interesting to study and classify them if possible. We usually dream about known events and our current circumstances.
But there is another kind of dream that is very disturbing: the premonitory dream, in other words, the dream through which we know the future.
It has been acknowledged for some time that, in their sleep, the most sensitive individuals may experience esoteric phenomena or extrasensory perception, as apparently the most favorable conditions are established.
Even some experts such as Freud and Jung distinguish between premonitory dreams (visions of future events) and telepathic dreams in nightly visions (images of a thought that our brain has captured).
Some experts in the field of esoteric and paranormal phenomena believe that telepathic dreams occur when certain people or objects can be introduced into consciousness while someone sleeps.
On the other hand, disasters, accidents, and tragedies are the most common events to be seen in premonitory dreams, though they are often not seen as such, but represented by different symbols. To interpret the dream, you must make use of your intuition.
These events, also called pre-cognitive, often occur in real life shortly after appearing in dreams.
Usually the person who dreams is not in the scene, and scenes are very vivid and real, but sometimes scenes appear with jumps in time and space between them.
Some cases of premonitory dreams
Among the dreams of this kind, which were very famous, is the death of Mark Twain’s brother. Mark Twain dreamt that he saw him in a coffin with a bouquet of white flowers (Henry Twain died in a fire in the steamship in which he was traveling, and his casket and the flowers were identical to those that appeared in his brother Mark’s dream).
There is also the dream of a Pharaoh of Egypt that was interpreted by Joseph, son of Rachel and Jacob, in which he saw seven huge cows being eaten by seven thin cows, and seven spikes bursting with grain being devoured by seven dry spikes without any grain: it was foretelling that a period of abundance would be followed by a very bad period of food shortage.
The Bishop of the Balkans, Monsignor Joseph Lana dreamt on June 27, 1914 with the letters that had arrived, one of which with the seal of the Emperor's house. This letter described in detail the assassination of Archduke Franz of Habsburg, which occurred the next day.
Then there is the case of Eryl Mai Jones, a 10-year-old Welsh girl who lived in Aberfan, a mining town, and dreamt in October 1966 that “a black thing” engulfed the school. Two weeks later, an avalanche of coal actually collapsed over the school and killed 144 people including 128 children, among whom was the very own Eryl Mai. Moreover, a few days before the tragedy, many inhabitants of the town dreamt of avalanches and black powder.
