Feng Shui has become all the rage in the world of interior design and architecture, but this goes far beyond the merely decorative. If we adapt our homes or businesses according to the principles of Feng Shui, we’ll notice that things improve and that life changes.
Feng Shui originated in China about 4,000 years ago. Apparently, it was developed to find the perfect location for agricultural crops. Once they saw its effectiveness, they began to apply the principles of this discipline within their homes.
We can state that Feng Shui is the doctrine that studies the correct placement of spaces and environments, and the relationship between them. This ensures that those who occupy these spaces have a better health, vitality, and a logical harmony among all of our elements. All this will give us the well-being and prosperity we seek.
This discipline is developed on the careful observation of environments. It takes into account the cardinal points, the magnetic orientation, the prevailing wind at the site, the geophysical and natural characteristics of the place (mountains, rivers, seas, etc.) Great theories of the ancient chinese culture are added to this careful observation: the Yin-Yan, the stages of change, the I Ching. In time, due to Western influence, ideas or advice from scientific disciplines, such as psychology, have been included into the practice of Feng Shui.
There are several schools with different evolutions of the same principle. We will highlight two: the Analytical and the Intuitive.
Analytical or traditional. Here, astrological calculation and cardinal-geographical positioning are essential. It is the most ancient school, the most similar to the original.
Intuitive or European. It is the evolved version of Feng Shui, adapted to today’s life and the most aligned with current trends. It is a movement that originated in the twentieth century and the school with the most practitioners.
