Pregomancy

Divination using water springs, which was practiced by throwing a certain number of stones into the water and observing the movements they caused in it.

Glass containers were also submerged and the motion of water entering them and forcing the air in them was observed.

The most famous pregomancy was the one practiced with dice at the Arona fountain, near Padua. Dice were thrown into the water to see what numbers they yielded, whether they sank or floated – and based on these happenings a seer would explain the future.
