Major Arcana
The Hermit:
The ninth card of the Major Arcana represents the desire for an internal search and introspection on the part of the individual.
It represents those who meditate and ask questions, and wish to escape the desire to possess material goods in favor of greater moral wealth, which will be obtained with serenity, peace, and solitude.
This is a search in solitude in which people must find the answers within themselves, by removing superfluous elements that may appear in their path.
This card represents the need to take time to reflect, where distractions and superfluous matters are no longer welcome. It symbolizes on the one hand a search, especially to understand a situation, and on the other hand, it may indicate whether it is advisable to withdraw from something at any given time.
It also indicates that while we receive valuable assistance, we may in turn assist others.
In matters of love, The Hermit symbolizes that a bit of solitude is always good, and some times it is good time to withdraw oneself in time to reflect for a moment on the relationship.
The Hermit, right-side-up, symbolizes deep reflection, meditation, discretion, prudence, vigilance.
Also, it represents that things are to be taken calmly, and with deep concentration. It speaks of wise individuals, researchers, and psychoanalysts.
This card, reversed, speaks of a lack of maturity and sociability, and also an accused pessimism that drains the individual of the strength to tackle his/her problems.
The keywords for this card are: meditation, austerity, wisdom, and the passage of time.
If it appears next to The Lovers, it means disappointment in love, and if it appears next to the Death card, The Moon, or The Tower, it may indicate risk of disease.
The Hermit has an astrological link to Aries.
This card represents solitude and stagnant issues.
If it is reversed, it could mean that a situation of loneliness may change for the better. The interpretation of this card depends greatly on the surrounding cards.
